5 Reasons to Eat Avocados & How to Pick a Good One!
How often did you buy avocados and you end up trashing them, because they got bad, or never got ripe?
It took me many “trials and successes” before I learned how to select the best avocados.
Today I’m happy to share with how to select the best avocados, so you skip the painful unpleasant experience and stop wasting money on avocados that are not good.
You know me I like to Eat Healthy On Purpose (EHOP), so first let’s take a look and see why avocados are good for you, and then how to select the best ones.
Avocados are great tasting foods with multiple health benefits. Here are 5 reasons why you may consider adding avocados to your diet.
- Heart health benefits primarily due to their fatty acid composition-monounsaturated fats, and high potassium content
- Anti-inflammatory properties, due to their content of phytosterols, and various carotenoids (lutein, zeaxanthin, beta-carotene)
- Optimal absorption of carotenoids-not only avocados are a rich source of carotenoids, but due to their fat content facilitates the absorption of those carotenoids (carotenoids are fat soluble vitamins, hence require fat for absorption)
- Support blood sugar control. Avocados are low carb, low glycemic index food, with most of their carbohydrate content present as fiber. Fiber is known to help with blood sugar regulation.
- Antioxidant and anti-cancer properties, due to their content of vit E, carotene and vit C.

Step 2-when you remove the stem; you’ll find bright yellow color beneath
Step 3-when you cut the avocado, has a nice green-yellow color, with uniform consistency and the flesh comes off the shell easily.
