hi
My Favorite 2015 APPS!
Over the years I’ve been using many apps to help me in my life and biz. I did a review of all of them and I selected the top contenders. It turned out to be 13. I hope the number 13 doesn’t scare you away.
Ok, here they are. I suggest you check them out and if you think they make your personal and professional life better go for all or any of them.
Part I: FOOD & NUTRITION Apps
#1. Dirty Dozen. I use this app to check what vegetables or fruits I must buy organic, because they retain high amounts of pesticides when conventionally grown.
“Nearly two-thirds of the 3,015 produce samples tested by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2013 contained pesticide residues – a surprising finding in the face of soaring consumer demand for food without agricultural chemicals.”-app description.
#2. Non-GMO Project Shopping Guide-By The Non-GMO Project. You’ll need this if you want to avoid Genetically Modified Foods.
“Designed to support consumers right to know what is in our food and in avoiding GMOs, this app features a list of the brands and products that have been verified through the Non-GMO Project’s Product Verification Program. The Non-GMO Project’s program is the ONLY third-party non-GMO verification program in North America, and “Non-GMO Project Verified” is the only non-GMO claim backed by transparent and rigorous standards. The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization originally founded by retailers committed to providing consumers with reliable non-GMO choices”-app description.
#3. AllRecipes. Great app to have if you’re like me and don’t like having books in the kitchen. I go to this app if I need to see an original recipe that I want to convert into a grain/sugar free one (e.g biscuits or banana bread).
“Get dinner on the table with less fuss and more fun! Allrecipes’ Dinner Spinner gives you instant access to Allrecipes’ amazing collection of member-shared recipes, photos, ratings and reviews from a community of more than 30 million home cooks”-app description.
#4. Farm Star Living. This comes in handy when you’re eating out, in your town, as well as when you travel and want to find farm-to- table restaurants.
“Farm Star Living helps you find the farm-to-table restaurants near you – all across the USA! We have 400+ cities listed with profiles of their best farm-to-table restaurants – including directions, maps, web links, phone numbers, reviews, etc. – and are adding at least 10 new cities every week! You can submit and review your favorites here, too!”-app description.
#5. MealLogger. Easy way to keep a food journal using photos. You know I don’t count calories, nor do I encourage you to do so. I recommend whole foods eating, intuitive eating, based on hunger and satiety. If you don’t count calories, but would like to keep track of what you eat, how much and how often, as well as to track your exercise, this is my app of choice. Give it a go. You may like it too. And if you work with a dietitian, coach, nutritionist, etc. you can connect with your healthcare practitioner and get instant feedback.
“MealLogger, the fast photo food journal, is the easy way to keep track of your healthy eating and wellness goals. Now faster and with more ways to help you stay on track”– app description.
#6. Eat Well Guide. This is not an app but a great website to visit especially when traveling and wanting to eat well. You can “add to home screen” (see photo). You’ll be able to search over 25,000 hand-picked restaurants, farms, markets and other sources of local, sustainable food near you.
Cool this is the list of my favorite FREE FOOD & NUTRITION apps. I hope this will help you make eating healthy at home as well as when traveling a bit easier.
