Three steps to make nuts more digestible and to unleash their power nutrients. Turn your nuts into “SuperNuts” .
Nuts are one of my favorite snack foods; not only they are delicious, but extremely nutritious too.
Look at nuts as being a complete food. They contain all of the 3 macronutrients: carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Nuts provide sustainable energy by having a high fat, protein and fiber content (fiber is a carbohydrate that mainly feed the bacteria in your gut, aka prebiotic). Thy make a great on-the-go snack.
To fully benefit from eating nuts however it’s best to prepare them properly. What do I mean by properly preparing nuts?
Soak or partially sprout the nuts before you eat them. (See videos below).
Nuts contain enzyme inhibitors and those can put a strain on the digestive system of most people, particularly if consumed in excess. Soaking makes nuts much easier to digest and the nutrients much more bioavailable.
Adding salt to the soaking water activates enzymes that neutralize the enzyme inhibitors present in raw nuts.
